Accommodate oneself

Definition/Meaning: adjust oneself to the circumstances; accept the conditions. Examples: If it is necessary, we have to accommodate ourselves to everything our abductors demand from us so we won't be harmed. Please accommodate yourself and feel at home. I find it hard to accommodate myself to the new environment I'm in right now.

Chapter of accidents

Definition/Meaning: succession of mistakes Examples: It's really hard to avoid a chapter of accidents when you're not prepared. Because of the chapter of accidents that we have to go through, we need to take extra care from now on. At some point of our life, we may have encountered a chapter of accidents that we wish had not happened.

Terms of abuse or abusive terms

Definition/Meaning: bad, uncomplimentary, or violent language Examples: Never use abusive terms when you are on live TV. Terms of abuse are for uneducated individuals who show anger in public. As a kid, I heard a lot of abusive terms coming from the mouth of my father.

Above-board

Definition/Meaning: honest and unconcealed Examples: His conduct has been entirely above-board . If there was a chance to choose a candidate who is above-board , our country would be made different. We can't be a person who is above-board by pretending to be one. The policemen acted completely above board . I am pretty sure that the judge's decision is all above board and fair. If his proposal is above board , it is sincere and not trying to trick us. The judging was completely fair and above board . Every transaction is done aboveboard .

Above all

Definition/Meaning: that which is of greatest importance Examples: Above all , our safety matters. In order to get qualified, you have to have the skills, the knowledge, and above all , the confidence that you can make it. A person should be, above all, of good moral character. Mother was worried above all to reveal the fact of the matter. When buying something, everyone is looking for genuine insight above all else.

Up and about

- out of bed and moving around examples: Rhea has recovered from flu fast. In fact, she is already up and about. After drinking buckets of beer at the party, Mike can't be up and about early tomorrow. We have to go to sleep early tonight for at 3 in the morning we can be up and about to prepare the things we need for the holiday.

Out and about

- outdoors and moving examples: Michael is already out and about at 4 in the morning. Though it has been freezing cold outside for days now, Jason still loves to be out and about while doing some exercise. Hardworking people are usually out and about early in the morning.

Abide by

- remain faithful to (an agreement or decision) examples: If everyone abides by the law, our place will be peaceful. It is necessary to abide by the law so that everyone can live peacefully. As a public official, one should abide by the law first.

Be in or fall into abeyance

- be in a state of waiting or suspense (until some decision is made) examples: The whole matter is in abeyance until after new year. The president's decision is in abeyance until the next elections. We can't wait if you put everything in abeyance.
